SHORTLISTED ARTISTS

Congratulations to all the shortlisted artists. Before the hand-in day please provide two images of your shortlisted works. Please provide one image less than 2MB in size and one higher resolution image which is between 2MB and 10MB (a requirement of BANES, who have an overall responsibility for the Gallery). Most smartphones will take images that fall into this higher resolution category. If you need to resize an image then there are many free image resizing sites available online such as https://www.nchsoftware.com/photoeditor/ppadfreesetup.exe and
www.adobe.com/express/feature/image/resize. However, for picture quality it is better to retake a photo on your phone and then upload it, rather than expanding the -2mb image.

Please login and go to online entry to upload your images and edit your work details. You may upload two files per work. Only one image will appear on your entry overview but if both images have been provided we will have received these. You have until 5pm on the 22nd September to edit your work details and provide all images.

SUBMISSION DEADLINE

Open call for entries is from 10.00 am Friday 16th July until 5.00 pm on Tuesday 31st August 2021.

WHO CAN ENTER

The Competition is open to all UK artists, over the age of 18 years old on 16th July 2021.

ENTRY FEE

Members of the Society can enter up to 3 works for free with a maximum of two accepted, one of which is guaranteed.

Non-members can enter up to 2 works.

One work – £15.00

Two works – £27.00

Young artists (aged 18 – 25) may submit up to 2 works at £5 per work.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

Entries may include paintings, sculpture, drawings, prints or mixed media. Digital prints and collaborative artworks can be submitted (see rules and guidelines for further details). No photography, or Giclée reproductions, or copies of original works generated in other media will be accepted, except in specific circumstances where it is necessary to submit a photographic record of a work. Under these circumstances, pre-authorisation from the BSA executive committee is required. For authorisation please email secretary@bsaorg.uk.

Exhibits must be original, the artist’s unaided work.

Works must be for sale for a minimum of £100, with the exception of prints. There is no ceiling on sales prices. Commission is 43.5% (the Bath Society of Artists is not VAT registered).

ENTRY PROCESS

To submit work, please go to online entry and complete the entry form where you will be asked to enter your details and pay for your submission. Please note that payment does NOT mean your application is complete. To complete your application you must upload an image of your work(s). If you have successfully registered you will be able to edit your entry via the online entry tab.

You are free to go back and make any changes up until the deadline which is 5.00 pm on 31st August 2021. After this point your entry will be automatically recorded, as shown at that time.

After that date and time, you will be able to continue to have sight of your entries until Sunday 26th September, so that those coming to Handing-in Day will be able to write their labels direct from their online record.

There are no size or weight restrictions within reason. The gallery does show off larger works to advantage; sizes of up to 150cm have been exhibited previously but bear in mind that even if a work is accepted there may not always be room to hang it. 3D work should be stable and safe to exhibit.

SELECTORS

Once the submission date has passed, a preliminary online selection panel made up of Executive committee members and BSA members will select out both 2D and 3D artworks from all the submissions, to go forward to the final selection process. Artists will be advised one way or another by email, if their work has been selected for the next stage (see key dates).

The final selection stage will be held in the gallery on Sunday 26th September 2021. 2D work will be voted in by guest selectors: Charlotte Sorapure NEAC; David Inshaw, President of the Bath Society of Artists; Jon Benington, Manager, Victoria Art Gallery; and BSA members: Dorothea Whitley-Smyth AMNS; Howard Jeffs; Sam Heath; Lindy Wright; Janet Freeman and Susanna Lisle; 3D work will be voted in by guest selector David Simon and BSA members Ed Chudleigh MBE; Mary-Jane Evans; Iain Cotton and Holly Bennett.

Artists will be advised by email if their work has been selected to be displayed in the Victoria Art Gallery (see key dates). Work selected for the exhibition will also be included on the Victoria Art Gallery’s website which will go live, as close to the 2nd October opening date as is possible.

There is no guarantee once finally selected, that we will be able to display every artwork in the gallery; especially if an increase in Covid cases leads to more restrictions in October, which could either reduce the numbers of artworks on show, or transfer the whole exhibition online, as last year. Any artwork selected but not displayed, will need to be collected from the gallery on the given collection days.

JUDGES AND PRIZES

This year, we are pleased to announce three judges: Marc Quinn who will select the 3D prize winner; Fiona Robinson PRWA and David Simon of David Simon Contemporary, who together will select the remaining prize winners. Artists chosen for awards will be advised of their success and encouraged to attend a preview evening (if allowed at that time) to receive their award.
